Calling Bilal a neo-soul crooner is tantamount to saying Prince is a mere R&B artist. Not only did the former learn to sing opera in several languages and trained in jazz and big-band arrangements at New York City's Mannes Music Conservatory, but he's been a featured guest on hip-hop albums by Common and Guru. Even though fans are still waiting on a follow-up to his genius 2001 debut 1st Born Second, the Philly native has kept busy writing and producing Erykah Badu, who counts him as a member of her Soulquarian collective alongside Mos Def, Q-Tip, D'Angelo and Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson. The uber-talented Bilal makes his debut at Yoshi's and will be accompanied by the Robert Glasper Trio. Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Yoshi's.8 & 10 p.m., $28.
