Big Sam's Funky Nation won "best funk Group" kudos at the 2009 Big Easy Awards, and is known as one of the most powerful brass bands in New Orleans, a town that knows something about roots music. Led by former Dirty Dozen trombone legend Big Sam Williams, the band has been mesmerizingtheCrescentCity with a blend of funk, rock, jazz, hip-hop and N'awlins second line strut for almost a decade. Funky Nation's appearances on Treme, HBO's ode to New Orleans, has raised its national profile and added fuel to the band's already incendiary lives shows.
