Big Freedia

When: Sat., Feb. 25, 9 p.m. 2012
Price: $14, $16

How the hell is this show not sold out yet? (Uh, at press time, that is.) Big Freedia -- born Freddie Ross, later self-christened the Queen Diva, subsequently called all manner of very nice things by all manner of fans and critics -- makes music that is a thoroughly alive, impossible-not-to-love combination of half-yelled call-and-response raps and beats that have the power to truly redefine the meaning of the word "booty." As such, she's the best and brightest example of all the gooey goodness coming out of New Orleans' vibrant bounce scene, and the fact that you and everyone else in this city isn't running not walking, elbowing friends and neighbors in the ribs, clambering over obstacles and not taking no for an answer, in order to get to a computer and buy tickets to her Noise Pop show with Hard French DJs, Vogue & Tone, and Double Duchess at Public Works (161 Erie St., San Francisco, 415-932-0955, is goddamn criminal. COME ON BAY AREA, I THOUGHT WE WERE BETTER THAN THIS. Prove me wrong Saturday, Feb. 25. 9 p.m., $14, $16.
