Comedian Patton Oswalt (Reno 911, The Informant!) is brilliant in deep character as Paul Aufiero, a lumpish Staten Island parking garage attendant whose otherwise uneventful life revolves around the New York Giants football team. He barks about them on late-night sports talk radio shows, goes to Giants Stadium tailgate parties with his buddy (Kevin Corrigan, also terrific), and then, one night in a Manhattan strip club, crosses over the line with his idol, a linebacker. What happens next represents a solid, if a bit less compelling, advance along the narrative line set by writer-director Robert D. Siegel in his first hit, The Wrestler.
