Re: “I am Annoyed and Disappointed

RachelM... I have a question for you. At exactly what age does it become acceptable to YOU for one to express an introspective thought or outlook on life? You assert that a 24 year old person is chronologically and by nature, vacuous... perhaps you should open up and out socially... I have personally met many people in their mid 20's that’ve been quite capable of carrying on an intellectual conversation... and many are doing great things for themselves and for others.

As for MIG... Cult behavior has historically involved the veneration and deifying of a person. The belief that a particular person is divine, all knowing and therefore we should follow that person unquestionably. Who exactly has Cafe Gratitude venerated? The principals of Cafe Gratitude have certainly not deified themselves in any way. Maybe RachelM is right... maybe you fall into the category she referenced when she suggested that certain age groups are "vacuous" and too short on life experience to formulate an intelligent thought. ???

As for the price of food at Cafe Gratitude... I personally can afford Cafe Gratitude, but I cannot afford Spago's and I cannot afford to vacation in Europe. Do my financial limitations give me the right to post nasty things about Spago's all over the internet, and to wish for their downfall? If that makes sense to you, then we have nothing else to talk about. ....Or do my financial limitations give me the right to speak injuriously of those who can afford vacations in Europe? Finances are an individual issue... If you need financial development, then recognize that as your issue and work on that. Meanwhile, BE THANKFUL that you can afford to eat something at all, because a lot of people cannot.

How about this... I trust that you can make food choices that work for you. Please give others the same courtesy by keeping your nasty thoughts to yourself, so we can all digest our food selections in peace.

Happy are the peace makers for they will find peace.

Re: “I am Annoyed and Disappointed

This is both a response to the JohnShirley comment, and something new to think about.

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or insensitive in any way... but if you went to Cafe Gratitude and got a stomach ache after eating their food, you may need to seek out the help of a physician. I have gotten stomach aches from Chinese, Italian, sushi, pizza, Greek, Jamaican restaurants... and what have you, but never from Gratitude... in fact, I have never even experienced a bloated feeling nor digestive difficulties of any kind after eating at Cafe Gratitude. ... so truly, if you have that physical reaction to fresh, organic, locally produced food... you may have a problem that has advanced to a point where a doctor may be needed in your case.

As for the comment about cooked food being better for you... I kind of agree, IF you're talking about meat products... I mean, unless you want to really tempt fate... I tend to believe that cooked is probably the best way to eat these foods. But just be ready for the cardiac, inflammatory, renal, glycemic and bariatric problems that a lot of people experience as a result of long term eating of these foods. ... but who knows, maybe you’re that one in a million guy who smokes for 50 years and never develops Congestive Heart Failure or Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease... so if you're feeling lucky, give it a try.

As for the rest out there... whether you choose Cafe Gratitude or some other source, it is important that you make changes to your way of eating long before you begin to experience this persons symptoms, or worse.

On another issue bantered on this blog... As an HR professional... I know from first had experience that many companies require specific training/s for it's employees... whether by an in-house Trainer or an out-side contracted service provider... trainings are required... in my dealings with employees, I've had to enforce these rules. Many times they're referred to as "Development Plans". I truly believe that many people who have expressed views on this blog have not experienced working for Corporate America. With limited exposure, their views, though intellectually stimulating, are nonetheless myopic. It is extremely common for a company to require training, especially for it's leadership teams. Autodesk has 'Autodesk University'... Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, Ernst and Young, Sprint, Verizon... and such like, all have some kind of required trainings. As I may have stated in a comment last week... we need to be a lot more sophisticated in assessing what we read. We need to really develop our critical thinking skills to the point where we can look at things pragmatically... because though we are emotional beings, at the end of the day... like it or not, pragmatism wins in the business environment.

Speaking as an HR professional, I see a lot of companies go wrong during the pre-hire process. I truly believe that a Psychological Assessment should be administered and evaluated on each candidate, prior to making a hiring decision. I am sure many will disagree with me, but the more issues like these are raised by disgruntled past employee's, the more we will find employers using a per-hire Psych Assessment as a part of the hiring process. Problems require solutions and this has been a great mitigative solution for many employers. People are always on their very best behavior during the interview process, but these kinds of assessment instruments can reveal the real person. I can't help wondering whether Ash would have been hired by this particular employer after a pre-hire psych review.

Also in an earlier posting, someone made the comment that 'everyone in prison says they're innocent'... this highlights the fact that each of us tends to distort reality, to rationalize our behavior and to spin it in our favor... one very strongly discussed issue in Landmark is that we all need to take personal responsibility for our actions, issues, relationships... and for where we are in life. Is this something that we see people embrace in society ? No... we see parents defending the bad behavior of their children...we see hit and run drivers, people justify driving in an impaired condition, people justify cheating on partners, shoplifters feeling justified... and litigation of all kinds continues to spiral, as people take the position that they are right no matter what... they are right, they are right, they are right and need not modify their views, actions or anything about themselves.

There is a buyer for everything being sold... whether literally or figuratively, each of us buys what we see as important and want to buy... so buy what you want, but be prepared to maturely live with the results of your decisions.

************************************************

I went into this cafe once, ate the food, as I like vegetarian food, and it made my stomach hurt. It seemed only semi digestible and was not palatable for the most part. Raw foodism is not supported by scientific evidence; raw foodists cherrypick data and ignore data that contradicts their bizarre belief. In fact cooking releases more nutrition than it destroys, most of the time. that's really why people do it.

Re: “I am Annoyed and Disappointed

Oh... one other thing... the notion that Cafe Gratitude seeks to make all of their employees the same is news to me. Everyone i've met has definitely had their own personality and individual interests... I've met some there who like to play music and sing, I've met some who practice acrobatics, I've met some who like to teach yoga, I've met some who like to ride motorcycles... I even met one of their employees whose goal is to set up a village in Africa, and her co-workers are encouraging her to see it through. In a cult environment, aren't people expected to share the same goals, outlets and view points? If this is a cult, it's the poorest example of one i've seen.

We all need to be a lot more sophisicated as to how we process what we are hearing and reading... isn't that what California, and especially the San Francisco Bay Area prides inself in doing? Like they say... believe half of what you see and none of what you hear.

Re: “I am Annoyed and Disappointed

I HAVE BEEN GOING TO CAFE GRATITUDE FOR THE PAST 2+ YEARS. THE PEOPLE THAT I'VE MET THERE ARE VERY WELL ADJUSTED AND CLEAR HEADED. THE THINGS I'VE LEARNED ABOUT FOODS, AS WELL AS THE THINGS I HAVE LEARNED ABOUT MYSELF DURING THIS TIME HAVE BEEN LIFE CHANGING. I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH TERCES, HER HUSBAND AND THE CAFE GRATITUDE TEAM. I PRAY THEY KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.

WHY SHOULD ANYONE BE SURPRISED OR DISMAYED BECAUSE ONE OR TWO PEOPLE ARE BAD MOUTHING A GOOD THING? THIS HAS HAPPENED ALL THROUGH HISTORY... YOU TRY TO DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR PEOPLE, AND THEY COMPLAIN. MOSES LED THE ISRAELITES OUT OF SLAVERY TO EGYPT AND THEY COMPLAINED. JESUS RAISED THE DEAD, HEALED THE SICK, FED HUNGRY MULTITUDES... AND WHAT HAPPENED ? PEOPLE COMPLAINED. INTERESTING THING ABOUT COMPLAINERS... THEY NEVER HAVE ANYTHING BETTER TO OFFER... THEY HAVE NO BETTER COURSE OF ACTION TO SUGGEST, NO BETTER ROUTE THAT PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE, NO BETTER FOODS THAT PEOPLE SHOULD EAT, NO BETTER PERSON TO PERSON PRACTICES TO SUGGEST.... JUST COMPLAINT FOR THE SAKE OF COMPLAINT.

ALONG THESE SAME LINES... RIGHT NOW WE HAVE PEOPLE BAD MOUTHING NATIONWIDE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE... THEY'RE SCREAMING AND HOLLARING... BUT WHAT DO THEY HAVE BETTER? NOT A DAMN THING.

I DON'T KNOW ASH, BUT I WISH HER THE BEST... AS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE ALLOWED THEMSELVES TO BE INFLUENCED BY THIS PERSON... EXACTLY WHAT HAS THIS PERSON PUT FORTH AS THE BETTER LIFE COURSE? COMPLAINING AND TEARING PEOPLE AND IDEAS DOWN IS EASY AND REQUIRES NO TALENT. THE REAL WORK IS IN COMING UP WITH A BETTER WAY AND COMMUNICATING THAT... SO EXACTLY WHAT IS THAT WAY ? I HEAR NOTHING BUT CRICKETS... DO YOU HEAR CRICKETS... ?

IT IS ONLY WHEN WE RECOGNIZE, CONFRONT AND TAME OUR IN-BORN UNWILLINGNESS TO SEE THE GOOD IN OURSELVES AND OTHERS, THAT WE CAN RID OURSELVES OF THIS JOY ROBBING NEGATIVITY AND REACH OUR FULL POTENTIAL.

TERCES... THANK YOU FOR LABORING TIRELESSLY THE WAY YOU AND YOUR HUSBAND HAVE. I HAVE SEEN YOU BOTH WORK FOR THE GOOD OF OTHERS WITH MY OWN EYES AND EARS... THANK YOU BOTH. INSTEAD OF SPENDING YOUR TIME AT SAKS FIFTH AVENUE AND NEIMAN MARCUS, BUYING THE LATEST AND GREATEST CARS AND VACATIONING IN EUROPE... YOU HAVE CHOSEN TO FOCUS YOUR TIME AND RESOURCES ON HELPING PEOPLE AND SERVING OTHERS. YOU HAVE TRULY HELPED MORE PEOPLE THAN YOU WILL EVER KNOW.

SO I SAY, DON'T CHANGE A THING, KEEP RIGHT ON 'DOING YOU'.
