Beyond Blastoff: Surviving in Space

When: Nov. 10-Dec. 31 2007
Price: $7-13

Even if the prospect of aged (and probably unedible) Russian-American space cuisine doesn't pique your interest, there's plenty other gadgets and doohickies to explore in ChabotSpace & ScienceCenter's new exhibit, Beyond Blastoff: Surviving in Space. Special features include a toilet from the Russian Mir spacecraft, a Soyuz reentry capsule (designed for safe travel through the earth's atmosphere), a photo booth where you can pose while simulating weightlessness, and a micro-gravity trainer (i.e., a sled gliding over a low-resistance surface) that astronauts use so that their muscles don't atrophy. Not to mention the Chabot gift shop still stocks plenty of space ice cream -- you know, the chalky Neapolitan stuff; no refrigeration required. Beyond Blastoff opens Saturday, Nov. 10.
