Re: “A Ban on Sitting?

i have worked on telegraph for 15 years. the last 2 or 3 years have been awful. some mornings it looks like a refugee camp. walking down the street 2 blocks, TWO BOCKS, to get a cup of coffee i often pass 18 - 30 (during summer months) surly, do-nothing cretins in different groups, straggled all over the place, trying to figure out how and when to get intoxicated -- we know WHERE. signs, dogs and dog excrement, clothing, packs all over the sidewalk. as the day wears on, they get in fights with each other, scream, piss behind buildings, smoke weed and harass passersby. i usually leave by 6:30 or so... i bet the scene after dark is a real treat!

they are not needy homeless kids from the area. they are transients who have chosen to HANG OUT on telegraph. some stay for a week... some stay for years.

they lead a useless, negative existence. they are not demonstrating for equal rights or free speech. THEY HAVE ONE MISSION: to get money for 1. beer/weed, 2. coffee, 3. psychedelics. and yes, occasionally, 4. food. i see them all the time, and they see me. they know i work there -- they see me working. HOW MANY TIMES do you think one has approached me and ASKED for a job???? NONE.... not once in 15 years. they ask me for money twice a day -- but NO -- none of the HUNDREDS who have Squatted on telegraph have ever asked for a JOB.

i don't hate them. i don't want them to shrivel up and die. i want them to go away. no one wants them there. they are a negative drain on the university, residents, and business people in the area. they're from Tennessee, Florida, Los Angeles, Detroit, New Jersery and Portland. they are more like an infestation than a disease. WE are a hard-working university town -- they are a swarm of filth and degradation descended upon us. IF MY POSITION is not clear -- the street children who roam around Telegraph and Shattuck bring NOTHING to the party except bad.

it would really be so pleasant if they weren't there, sucking up perfectly good air day after day after day.... i hear the weather in Miami is just fine. get along now kiddies.......

signed,
they been in my back yard for 15 years, someone else take a turn.

Re: “Epic Beard Man Becomes a Cottage Industry

the whole "amber lamps" thing is wildly out of control and almost beyond imagination... to think anyone managed to turn a profit on this utterly random blip on the youtubisphere is.... i guess just par for the course.

begs the question, how much does this culture suck? with say.... the middle ages rating a 2, the nineteenth century a 4 and the 1960s rating a 6.... is our current disgrace of a popular culture a 7 or an 8? i think we are just bouncing between 5 and 6 -- en masse... it is not really going anywhere positive.

Re: “Slap Hitter: A'sja-Vu

from 99 to 2006 i went to 25-40 games a year. i thought they were incredibly lucky in 2006. it was their weakest team of all the previous years but they had their most success.

i knew they were gonna suck in 07 and gave up the sweet season tix i had since 2000... i still went to 10+ games in 07 and then a few less in 08 and then last year i think i went to 2 games! TWO! down from 30+ just a couple years previous.

i heard they signed coco crisp. that seemed like a non-Move. i am not surprised they signed Cust again. but honestly i think he is at the root of my lost interest. what an unimpressive year he had last year.... what was his VORP? had to be in the negatives. had to be.

i WOULD probably go to a couple games just to root for miggy. steroids or not, he provided me with such great times and great memories. easily my favorite A's player from the 00s along with MR HUDSON.

but ERIC CHAVEZ, JACK CUST, BOBBY CROSBY, DARIC BARTON, TRAVIS BUCK... i don;t want to hear about these guys anymore. the A's keep telling me how great they are.... but they haven't done anything to make me root for them or make me want to pay to see them play.

andrew bailey was a good story, but NO ONE is going to a game to see a relief pitcher that isn't named MARIANO RIVERA.

it's gonna be another long year.
