Best Urban Farming Supply Store
Biofuel Oasis
The gals that run Biofuel Oasis are a pretty savvy urban-sustainability
bunch, and not just because they make and sell biodiesel from recycled
vegetable oil. In their real lives, they also grow vegetables and
fruit, tend bees, and raise chickens, goats, and rabbits. Inside their
new biodiesel filling station on the corner of Ashby and Sacramento,
they've also opened a nifty store that caters to other
sustainability-minded folks. Inventory includes a DIY bookshelf —
filled with books on everything from growing your own food to creating
your own water catchment system — beekeeping supplies and
hardware, organic chicken feed and scratch, salt licks for goats, and
more. Prices are similar to other places selling organic farm supplies.
If you're new to the concept of urban sustainability, they also offer
Urban Farming classes on raising chickens, beekeeping, and biodiesel
home-brewing, running from $25-$90.
