Best Snowboarding Terrain Park: Land that jump or feel the mountain's wrath

Northstar at Tahoe

Cutting up some untracked powpow in an out-of-bounds area feels like flying, but nothing beats actually flying through the air itself for a few seconds, landing at twenty miles per hour, and not crapping your pants or snapping a femur. The experience awaits you in one of six of Northstar's world-class snowboarding terrain parks, about two hundred miles east of the bay. "Something for everyone" means little and easy-to-see jumps, rails, and funboxes for the grommets all the way through football-field-length mega half-pipes with several feet of vert at the lip and the blood of the unworthy spattered about the face. Snowmaking machines powder over the spilt plasma each night, but only after the lights go down on some of the most epic night shredding to be found legally in Tahoe. Even if you have absolutely no cojones whatsoever, many a spectator enjoys watching the fearless and limber launch over their heads while punk rock blazes from forest speakers. Tragically, the spring snows did not dissuade Northstar's owners from closing April 23. To all those who missed it: Duuuuude!
