What do you wear to the neighborhood hoedown? Or on that dusty hike through Tilden Park? Well, authentic cowboy attire, naturally. Golden Gate Western Wear is the first place an East Bay-er should go for cowboy hats, shirts, holsters, belts, and gigantic, gaudy, belt buckles. You can even find real ropes and knives for those vaqueros who might actually wrangle a few cattle. But the most exciting part of a trip to this Bay Area shop is ogling over the boots. Golden Gate stocks dozens of men’s and women’s leather cowboy boots, and all of them are beautiful. They’re not cheap — most run between $200 and $300 — but they make a statement, they last forever, and you’re not going to find a better selection anywhere in a fifty-mile radius. If you can’t afford to shell out that much, it’s worth a trip just to smell the leather and listen to the country music they proudly pipe through the shop.
