At first glance Red Hound is simply a high-end pet store — a real bichon frise, if you will. But look beyond the tiny dog biscuits artfully hung from fishing line in the display windows. Behind the counter there’s plenty of down-home dog food and backyard bones for your chubby lab, too. The Pergo floor gives the store a stylish in-your-flat-on-Sunday-afternoon feeling. Add to it the omnipresent sight of dog tails wagging, and some customers may want to do nothing but cuddle up in a big fluffy chair — don’t worry; there’s one of those, too — and call it a day. Red Hound’s College Avenue location is a real blessing. Animal guardians and people owners alike have been waiting for a smart pet store to arrive on the strip for years. Wag, wag.
