Dope Era

North Oakland rapper Mistah F.A.B. launched his clothing line, Dope Era, years ago out of his car trunk, eventually establishing a Market Street brick-and-mortar in the neighborhood where he grew up. A mentor to emerging artists and a politically outspoken community figure, he turned his storefront into a clubhouse and a music video set animated by conversation and stuffed with brightly colored sweatsuits, hoodies, and T-shirts bearing original, Town-centric messages and graphics. And then, disaster struck: The shop caught fire in an apparent act of arson. But Dope Era bounced back, reopening in a Broadway storefront early this year with a visit from brand ambassador Snoop Dogg.
