.Best New Space for Tots

Lotus Bloom Child and Family Resource Center

Is there a better way to start your baby’s life than fostering love for
all people? Since the multicultural play space Lotus Bloom opened on
Park Boulevard in March 2009, parents and nannies have been bringing
their kids to play there. The organization, funded by donations, city
money, and an Annie E. Casey Foundation grant, provides structured
bilingual playgroups for Chinese-, Vietnamese- and Spanish-speaking
families, as well as playtimes for African-American families, mirroring
the neighborhood’s diversity. The drop in play time is only $1 and it
provides arts and crafts, singing, circle time, and a snack. It
definitely gives the low-budget family a safe haven for their kids. The
groups are designated multicultural playgroups, and you will find a mix
of folks at this new space just down the street from the once and
future Parkway Theater.
