.Best Kid-Friendly Lunch: Accommodating your vivacious kinder

Play Cafe

Sometimes battle-worn parents just want to be able to eat a salad without their darling child howling from their booster seat between every agonizing bite. Thanks to the Play Cafe, lunch with your zealous little one doesn’t have to give you an ulcer. Play Cafe is just what the name suggests: You cafe while they play. While you’re sipping chai and munching soup and salad, Junior can wander into the miniature kitchen to “cook,” or step into the theater area, complete with lighted marquee, to indulge in the plethora of puppets. Or he may want to take a dip in the “Swimmin’ Hole,” a pit of blue balls dotted with small smiling heads. It costs $5.95 for your children to play as long as they wish, not including food. Even if you get there shortly after it opens (10:00 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays; 9:00 a.m. Saturdays), the place is already brimming with kids and moms, give or take a few dads. From the number of pregnant moms frequenting this joint, Play Cafe can look forward to plenty of future customers, too.
