Best Jukebox: Most Surprisingly Good Music Selection

The coveted Good Jukebox designation is normally the province of dive bars and scenester hangouts. But every once in a while, there's an exception. Thallasa is a nice place. If you had cousins visiting from the old country (whether that be Laos or Idaho), you could bring them to this sister establishment of Club Mallard without frightening them. Thallasa is big; it's upscale, with pool tables for miles. And the clientele seems to be mostly Berkeley students of the fraternal or sororal persuasion, fresh and clean cuties just one season away from one of those late-night reality dating shows. So can they appreciate a jukebox stocked with the Buzzcocks, the Notwist, Le Tigre, Television, Outkast, Johnny Cash, and the Pixies, rotated weekly. Who stocks that thing, anyway? Whoever it is, we raise a glass -- and a crisp stack of singles -- to your fine, albeit culturally dissonant, judgment.
(Sorry, no information is currently available for other years in this same award category.)
