.Best Indian Street Snack

Kathi Roll at Wrap N' Roll

Berkeley has no shortage of tasty Indian street food — of puris and pakoras and chole bhature — especially with an institution like Vik’s Chaat garnering multiple well-deserved kudos. But perhaps the most satisfying street snack of all is sold at an unlikely location: a nondescript deli on the west end of University Avenue. Among the (quite good) gyro wraps and other standard sandwich options on the menu at Wrap N’ Roll is something call a kathi roll, which is a freshly griddled Indian flatbread that’s stuffed with cumin-spiced masala chicken chunks. The best part is the thin egg omelet that coats the inside of the wrap, adding an extra layer of richness. Oh, and it’s a little bit misleading to call this gloriously greasy Indian “burrito” a snack — a single kathi roll is more than hearty enough to serve as a filling dinner all on its own.
