The Legionnaire Saloon

“It sounds better on vinyl,” says everyone with two ears and a heart, oftentimes unprompted. A killer jukebox does elevate a drinking experience from satisfactorily drunkenness-inducing to favorite-bar status, but a curated selection of 45s? Almost unheard of in the era of digital jams. Uptown’s Legionnaire Saloon flips the script by placing a premium on quality tunes. The new bar and music venue encourages local DJs to take control of its jukebox by picking and choosing their favorite albums for the masses. Every two months, a different DJ selects the 45s that appear in the 1973 Rockola jukebox, which can be played for just a quarter, and all proceeds are donated to Bret Harte Middle School’s music program. Add in four classic pinball games and entertainment including burlesque and live music, and we’re ready to say it: We may have found your new favorite hangout.
