Let's face it: For decades the hairstyling rule for television news personalities has been surreal and unbending: Everyone must look the same. What female news anchor doesn't have some version of the Respect-me-I'm-a-reporter feathered bob? And what male broadcast journalist doesn't sport the same conservative cut you would expect on a senior investment banker? So, Doug McConnell, host of KRON Channel 4's Bay Area Backroads, we salute you. McConnell has a wavy, short-on-the-sides, long-in-the-back 'do -- which, on paper, sounds suspiciously close to a mullet. We like the look; it adds to his ruggedness as he zips around Northern California showcasing this or that hideaway town. It takes courage to wear the Hairstyle of the People in television's über-conformist world. Thanks, Doug.
