East Bay Triple Crown Trail Championships

The best show on dirt in the East Bay every year is this longstanding trail-running triad of races that takes in the hills and scenery of Berkeley, Oakland, and Castro Valley, and culminates with a king and queen earning triple crown kudos based on their combined times from the threesome. The triumvirate starts in May with the Tilden Tough Ten, an out-and-back ten-miler starting at Inspiration Point on the very morn that all those nude Bay to Breakers runners toe the line across the bay. The Lake Chabot Trail Challenge Half Marathon, a moderately hilly 13.1-mile loop with a memorable after-race barbecue, follows suit about two weeks later in June. The troika concludes with the best and toughest of them all, the Dick Houston Memorial XC Race. This mid-June race is a rollercoaster of a beast through Joaquin Miller and Redwood parks with the dreaded hill known as the Woodmonster bringing many runners to a crawl. Runners can enter them all or any one of them, although true bragging rights and triple crown consideration only go to the studs and studettes who finish the trinity.
(Sorry, no information is currently available for other years in this same award category.)
