Kittens, baby clothes, Katie Holmes, cupcakes: all scientifically calibrated to evoke maximum awwwww. How can you not go goo-goo over a row of tiny cakes with their swirly, peaked icing caps? How can you not just want to shove your mug into the middle of one and wallow, slurping up every last foamy dollop of frosting, then pop the whole thing into your mouth? And with cupcakes proliferating like bunnies — hell, Starbucks now sells ’em by the six-pack — the East Bay’s cute factor is skyrocketing. But while we love the little roses piped onto Walnut Creek Baking Company’s cupcakes and the ice-blue sugar froth crowning those at Teacake Bake Shop, our hearts just melt every time we splurge on Love at First Bite’s “Pretty in Pink.” It has an alpine summit of tangy strawberry frosting! It has moist, berrylicious cake! It has sprinkles! And most important of all, it’s peeeeeeennnk.
.Best Cupcake: Delicate treats, indeed
