Best Bargain-Hunter's Delight: Cheap and proud of it

Ross Dress for Less

Drop those scissors, coupon clipper! If you're looking for name-brand and designer clothes, shoes, bedding, kitchenware, appliances, accessories, and the stray B-52 on the cheap, Ross is the mother lode. The two best local outlets are in Emeryville and downtown Berkeley. The Emeryville store is bigger, restocks faster, and has a wider range of merchandise, especially shoes. The Berkeley store has a better selection of jackets, gloves, and lingerie. A big plus for bargain shoppers: Ross' generous return policy. Service? Ambience? Complimentary lattes? Forget it. Put on your elbow pads, wade in, and you'll find an amazing array of quality products for absurdly low prices -- as much as 70 percent off SRP. Converse sneakers for $8. Dockers jackets at half price. Forty-buck yoga mats for $15. Even San Francisco eateries such as Blanca Cafe -- recently profiled in glamourpuss magazine 7x7 -- found many of its Spanish-style decorations at Ross. Imagine what you could find.
