Berkeley Joins the United Nations

The Republic of Berkeley became the first city in the nation, and possibly the world, to agree to abide by international human rights treaties and report directly to the United Nations. According to the Chron, the city council unanimously approved the unprecedented move last night. Now the question is - can Berkeley actually live up to the treaties, considering that UC Berkeley continues to allow John Yoo, the architect of the nation's torture regime, to teach law school?
