Berkeley Dance Project 2008

When: Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m. and Sundays, 2 p.m. Continues through April 27 2008
Price: $8, $10, $14

Of all the strange ideas to spawn from post-modern dance choreographer Twyla Tharp, her 1971 piece "Torelli"was perhaps the pinnacle. Tharp intended it to be performed in multiple locations in New York and span an entire day, capping off with "Evening Raga," a lullaby combining ragtime and Indian raga. Though unable to stage "Torelli"as it was originally conceived, the Berkeley Dance Project's interpretation will feature some of Tharp's odd rhythms and expansive movements. It's the highlight of Berkeley Dance Project 2008 -- the year-end performance mounted by UC Berkeley's Department of Theater, Dance, and Performance Studies -- which also features Jess Curtis' "Symmetry Study #8," Kim Epifano's "MELT," and Ariel Osterweis Scott's "Ouroboros." April 18-April 27 (Friday-Saturday at 8 p.m., Sunday at 2 p.m.) at Zellerbach Playhouse (LowerSproulPlaza, UC Berkeley). $10-$14.
