Re: “The Elephant in the Room

My question is, given that taxes can lead to great things, how did Iraq happen, or Vietnam for that matter?

How do democrats make peace with the fact that whatever revenues accrued during their progressive and utilitarian reign ends up having to be shared with the next democratically elected administration; like Bush?

I know this, Dick Cheney really enjoyed many democratic inventions, because the Iraq war wouldn't have happened without Wilson's income tax or FDRs paycheck withholding.

If people were just left alone and government was limited to protection of life and property, we wouldn't have many "good" things such as public employee pensions, medicaid, or even my favorite, NPR.

We also wouldn't have had the Vietname War. No Iraq part 1 or 2. No interest in the persian gulf. No cold-war geopolitics. No nuclear testing on deceived people. No corporate welfare, no industrial farming handouts - none of it.

So is it worth it to you democrats? A few million deaths here and there through government power to achieve a few social programs through government power? Sure, we're killing *other* people elsewhere to help seniors here, but that still stinks if you ask me.

Cut taxes, gut government power, follow Thoreau's admonishment about government and enjoy some peace for a change.
