Bellydance Day

When: Sat., Aug. 21, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. 2010
Price: $15-$22

Some say that belly dance has ancient roots as a means of invoking moon gods and fertility goddesses and of teaching women about their bodies in the pre-Islamic Middle East. At Rhythmix Cultural Works (2513 Blanding Ave., Alameda) on Saturday, Aug. 21, Bellydance Day features workshops and performances by award-winning local performers, including Mandanah and Shabnam. 10 a.m.-10 p.m, $15-$22
