Béla Fleck met ToumaniDiabate while he was planning a trip to West Africa to film and record his album/DVD Throw Down Your Heart, the third installment of Fleck's Tales From the Acoustic Planet projects. Fleck visited Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Mali, South Africa, and Madagascar to track down the origins of the banjo and the African roots of the music played on the instrument. Diabate, a kora (African harp) master from Mali will be joining Fleck onstage along with Tanzania's thumb piano virtuoso AnaniaNgoglia, Madagascar's guitar wiz D'Gary, and South African singer and songwriter VusiMahlasela at Yoshi's (510 Embarcadero West, Oakland) from Thursday, Mar. 19 to Saturday, Mar. 21 (8 & 10 p.m.), and Sunday, Mar. 22 (2 & 7 p.m.). $5-$35.
