It’s as if the Austin, Texas characters in Richard Linklater’s Slacker grew older and less amusing, yet still remained stuck in a perpetual dither of indecisiveness, their minds rotting in the humidity. But wait, these folks are the creations of writer-director Andrew Bujalksi, so he’s the one to blame for the story of a pair of twin sisters doing their dim, disorganized best to run a clothing store, maintain business and romantic relationships, and deal with their mother — and failing at everything. If that sounds like it has potential, try sitting through it for an hour and a half. Tilly and Maggie Hatcher establish new standards for gormlessness as Jeannie and Lauren, with Alex Karpovsky as a sometimes boyfriend/lawyer. Has a few writing problems (100 min.).
Director: Andrew Bujalski
