Beer and Soul

When: Tue., Nov. 17, 6 & 8:45 p.m. 2015
Price: $55
What could be more comforting than a plate of soulful food washed down with a delicious beer? That’s the killer combination that will be on display at this $55 three-course beer-pairing dinner that Miss Ollie’s (901 Washington St., Oakland) will host on Tuesday. The event is the third such collaboration between beer guru Sayre Piotrkowski (who until recently was the beverage director at Hog’s Apothecary) and Miss Ollie’s chef Sarah Kirnon, who will celebrate her restaurant’s third anniversary by offering a choice of two soulful menus, each dedicated to one of her culinary heroes: one to the Southern cooking legend Edna Lewis and the other to Kirnon’s own grandmother, Miss Ollie herself. Meanwhile, Piotrkowski will pair each dish with a beer from one of three California craft breweries: Ol’ Republic, HenHouse, and Craftsman. Check out the menus and beer selections and buy tickets at (link accessible via Piotrkowski’s website, — Luke Tsai
