Re: “Merritt College Nursing Woes

It was just a matter of time before someone played the race card. Congratulations.

If I may, I believe only 2 full time staff are, in fact, caucasian. And they are both Jewish! ( Remember how members of the Jewish faith were persecuted?!) Please don't go down the race road. It is a crutch and it is insulting to strong educated individuals of ALL races.

All of this bickering for some hand holding, but where will it really get any of you? You are out of a program that many desperately desire to get into. You will most likely sit on a wait list for any other college that doesn't charge $45k/year. If you do make it through the 1st semester, you have now sufficiently pissed off the people who hold your future in their hands. Good luck!

Merritt has a tradition of being a self taught program. I have heard from people who survived this program anywhere from 1-10 years ago. Nothing has changed. So many try to get into nursing thinking it will be easy, a huge paycheck, and things will be handed to you on a silver platter. Life doesn't work that way. If you want it bad enough, you will put your nose to the grindstone & get it done. Why is your class more entitled to coddling than any of the previously graduated classes?! Textbook inaccuracies?! We had them. No tutors? Ditto. High attrition rate? You bet. We lost 50/80 by the end of semester 1. It is true they admit way more than they should, because they know most can't handle it. At least you were given a chance to try. The students who get through are the students who put in many sleepless nights, find outside resources, study groups, etc., and made it happen. I can think of at least 5 of my class that were on academic probation in semester 1 who went on to graduate. Reality smacked them in the face & they stood up to the challenge.

All of the time & energy spent complaining should be put to time studying. Thats how you survive this program.
