Re: “Raising the Rent at 138 Monte Cresta

I understand that people are losing their HOMES if they are not able to pay the increase, but unfortunately that is a risk of being a do not make the ultimate decision on what happens to your home. I am a tenant of Dennis’ in Oakland and while his units aren’t inexpensive, they definitely are worth the money. I’ve lived in one of his buildings for over 5 years and have only had my rent increased by a minimal amount. Dennis also spends time and money making sure his properties are in top shape and I’ve never once had any push back from him when I’ve asked for special items or improvements. To his credit, he is the most reasonable and generous landlord I have ever dealt with in my 15 years of renting. Do people expect to stay in their units, have major improvements made to their property and still pay below market value? I just don't get it. There are plenty of buildings desperately in need of repair with cheap rent if that's the condition they're happy living in and if you saw Monte Cresta before the remodel you’d understand why they were paying next to nothing.
