Have you got what it takes to be the Bay Area’s next great jazz performer? Jazz Search West is holding the “Bay Area’s first jazz talent search for solo vocalists and instrumentalists.” Held at three venues around the Bay Area (Oakland’s was March 5 — sorry; Fairfax on Thursday, Mar. 11; and San Francisco on Thursday, Mar. 18), the competition will culminate in a grand finale at Piedmont Piano Co. in Oakland on Saturday, Mar. 27. Prizes include free tuition to Jazz Camp West ’10 in La Honda, a four-hour recording session with a professional engineer at Live Oak Studios in Berkeley, and a free demo CD produced by Larry Russo. Contestants must be fifteen years or older, complete an entry form, and pay $25. Walk-ins are also welcome. Judges include Madeline Eastman, Wayne Wallace, Sandy Cressman, Nicolas Bearde, and Trelawny Rose.
