Barry McArdle

When: Thu., Dec. 13, 6 p.m. 2007
Price: free

Wearing a shiny silver costume, Barry McArdle crisscrossed the United States for ten years selling parcels of the moon. Part performance artist, part huckster, part self-generated media phenomenon, the self-proclaimed "Moon Man" began his mission after graduating from ChicoState in 1971. Floating on that era's life-as-theater ethos, he roamed college campuses, literally offering lunar real estate to onlookers at $5 per acre. At the Oakland Main Library (125 14th St., Oakland) on Dec. 13, he reads from his memoir I Sold the Moon, which recounts the adventure in which, by his own accounting, he sold some 170,000 acres. 6 p.m. OaklandLibrary.org
