Ricky's Sports Theatre & Grill

Other than a Barry Bonds jersey and one or two Mark McGwire mementos scattered amid the multitude of sports memorabilia lining the walls of this institution, owner Ricky Ricardo's collection of jock artifacts is remarkably steroid-free. What you mainly get is a capsule history of Raider World -- from Double-O center Jim Otto to Jim Plunkett to Charles Woodson, with a serious digression into the ways of the Snake, legendary quarterback Kenny Stabler. And let's not forget all the Billy Ball stuff, the shrine to John Matuszak, and a rare collection of action photos of the Oakland Seals, the East Bay's late, lamented American Hockey League franchise of the 1960s. Best time to drop by Ricky's is any Saturday afternoon during college football season, when seemingly every game in the country is on, or during March Madness, or when the A's play the Yankees (you can at least get a seat here), or for any big prizefight. Grab a beer, settle down with a Janikowski's Polish Cannon Kielbasa ($7.95) or the surprisingly good grilled chicken Caesar salad ($10.95), and keep your eye on the ball.
