Band of Horses

When: Fri., Nov. 23, 9 p.m. 2007
Price: $20

The ethereal, bearded Band of Horses looks on its way to displacing My Morning Jacket as indie rockers' Southern dream-pop band of choice. It's no secret that "Detlef Schrempf," the gentlest and most oddly named song on Band of Horses' recent sophomore release, Cease to Begin, features Ben Bridwell's ribbon-thin tenor mastering the trademark "wordless chorus" of My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James. The South Carolina-via-Seattle outfit's 2006 debut, Everything All the Time, spun reverb and country rock smartly enough to land on many critics' year-end lists, so James and company must be keeping an eye on how the new one fares. Already it has succeeded in boosting Band of Horses' scheduled Mezzanine performance to the Fillmore on Friday, Nov. 23, with support from Drones and Tyler Ramsey. $20, 9 p.m. TheFillmore.com
