Ballet for the Rest of Your Life Workshop

When: Sat., Sept. 26, 2:30-4:30 p.m. 2009
Price: $30

Taking up ballet at middle age (or later) can feel like a Sisyphean endeavor; after all, from port de brasto plié after plié after plié, the rigors of ballet training challenge even the youngest, supplest bodies. On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Ballet for the Rest of Your Life workshop at the Julia Morgan Young People's Performing Arts Center (2640 College Ave., Berkeley) invites mature beginners to segue into dance with a realistic, body-friendly (i.e., slow and gentle) approach. Leading the workshop are the Berkeley Ballet Theater's associate artistic director, Susan Weber, and dance-focused physical therapist Nancy Bryan, both former professional dancers with advanced degrees and experience with students at all skill levels. They'll discuss techniques and tools that complement the body's natural changes, and lead exercises that bring the joy of ballet within reach. Wear comfortable clothing. Pre-registration is not required. 2:30-4:30 p.m., $30. 510-843-2606 or BerkeleyBallet.org
