B-Side is the newest venture from Brown Sugar Kitchen’s perennially popular Tanya Holland, in the old Yardie Jerk space on San Pablo Avenue in West Oakland. Holland has no barbecue-specific experience, but her broad resume serves her well in carving out some new culinary territory. B-Side’s brisket is exemplary, as are its sides and barbecue chicken, but the ribs never quite match up to expectations. Nothing is groundbreaking, but it’s still a very tasty addition to the area’s slim offerings of quality barbecue. Meats come from Niman Ranch and other quality purveyors.
