AXIS Dance Company's Open House & Auction

When: Thu., Aug. 26, 6:30-9 p.m. 2010
Price: free

Such is the reputation of Oakland's physically integrated contemporary dance company, AXIS, that it has inspired collaborations with Meredith Monk, Stephen Petronio, Bill T. Jones, and Fred Frith, among others. The company's latest creative partner is Bay Area movement collective inkBoat, led by award-winning choreographer Shinichi Iova-Koga, and the result is a new evening-length work, ODD. ODD willpremiere in November, but you can preview the piece-in-progress at an open house and fund-raising silent auction on Thursday, Aug. 26, at Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts (1428 Alice St., Oakland). Bid on jewelry, artwork, theater tickets, and other great stuff (preview items on the AXIS web site) or stop by to sneak a peek and mingle with artists who blaze a trail across the world's stage on foot and in wheelchairs. 6:30-9 p.m., free. RSVP to 510-625-0110 or
