Nineties alt-rock outfit Failure largely went unrecognized, despite the songwriting talent of frontmen Ken Andrews and Greg Edwards. Nevertheless, their skills didn't go to waste; Andrews successfully exploited his slick knob-tweaking abilities as an engineer and producer in LA, and somewhat less successfully as a solo artist (On) and band leader (Year of the Rabbit); while Edwards went down the path of arty rock as the guitarist for Autolux, with drummer Carla Azar and bassist/singer Eugene Goreshter. A healthy amount of buzz surrounded the trio after its 2001 EP Demonstration, but a delay in the release of its full-length, Future Perfect, tempered a meteoric rise. With coolly detached vocals; sparseness contrasting fuzzy, feedback-laden guitar; and a pop urge, Autolux has earned comparisons to the Pixies, My Bloody Valentine, and Blonde Redhead. The band stops by the GreatAmericanMusic Hall (859 O'Farrell St., San Francisco) on Saturday, Apr. 25. 9 p.m., $18.
