Auto Burglaries Surge on Berkeley/Oakland Border

Fliers are now being posted around the East Lorin district on the Berkeley/Oakland border warning of a surge in auto burglaries.

The text reads in part:

"There have been multiple car break-ins over the past two weeks on the 65th-Wheeler-Fairview loop and the 66th & Raymond area. These crimes include another rash of break-ins last night (Monday, July 28). Car windows were smashed and/or trunk locks were popped, some car stereos were stolen, but mostly the thieves are just quickly rummaging through glove compartments and other compartments looking for quick and easy valuables."

Even when nothing of value (or anything at all) has been stolen and even when contacting the police feels inconvenient, neighborhood-watch leaders urge victims of auto burglaries to file police reports of these crimes so that local law enforcement knows which areas are being hardest-hit.
