The face of actress Ariane Labed lifts this quiet, dour character study by filmmaker Athina Rachel Tsangari. Playing Marina, a restless young woman tending to her dying father (Vangelis Mourikis) in a lonely, concrete Greek port town, Labed has the perfect face and manner for an ancient Greek tragedy – it’s like she’s from another planet. At times, Tsangari’s drama looks like a site-specific dance piece, as Marina promenades with her friend (Evangelina Randou) and bonds very tentatively with a transitory engineer (Giorgos Lanthimos). But it’s Marina and her belated coming of age that this is all about, and the film builds into something lasting. Written and directed by Tsangari. (97 min.)
