I commend the folks who have succeeded at Merrit, but if we want to bring more competent, safe nurses into the profession, not to mention if we want students to feel respected, the fact is the program is going to have to change.

I do think the comparison with other Bay Area ADN programs is illustrative and important. CCSF for example has a slightly lower NCLEX pass rate (as someone posted already) but they retain a much higher percent of their students. And keep in mind, you can re-take the NCLEX. At CCSF, students have access to tutors specific to the program (which Merritt certainly does not have). The also admit fewer students - allowing faculty to give more attention to the students who are there.

Sure, nursing is not for everyone. We've all heard that line a million times now. But other schools are able to keep their students and to turn most of those students into licensed nurses. Lets look at what those programs are doing well and try to reproduce that at Merritt. Maybe nursing is for a few more of us than we're being told!
