Re: “Party 2 Nite. R U Going?

Kristen:
Do you mind if i take our last few "back and forths" and present them to my African-American psychology class?
another note-
I agree with what you have stated for the most part and i am in know way trying to justify the behavior of immature juveniles but there will be a point in time where these worlds will loose all racist and sexist connotation and just become an insult. which so many terms have already.

Re: “Party 2 Nite. R U Going?

"wordslanger" who are you? do you go to BHS? but anyways w/e.

Dear Kristen,
You obviously missed my point. its not that African-Americans are filled with self hatred its that they have shifted the status quo. If you take what someone considers an insult and turn it into an everyday term than that makes the person powerless. So what they have really done is turned an originally negative term into a positive one. So for all those who feel that African-Americans are filled with self-hatred they are mistaken. Along with BITCH. My point was that BITCH is no longer a sexist term. TIMES CHANGE, GET USE TO IT!!!!!

Just a comment to the adults... in the teenage culture currently it's, "kill or be killed". You can take that literally or figuratively; both can apply depending on who you are. Now i know it may sound harsh but its the truth. You do what you need to do in order to survive. Once again it could be surviving socially or livingly. (?) i encourage you to correct that one because i couldn't think of a better word.
onto a new topic
As stated before by other commentaries if you "snitch" you better think long and hard before you do. Because it will only cause more trouble. I've been put into situations were i could have snitched but I thought about it and realized that it would only create more chaos and trouble for myself. Imagine this... You get robbed by someone you don't know him but you saw his face. so you report him to the police. say the police find him and he gets busted. you get your stuff returned and he gets fined or goes to jail. Then he gets released. Now if you didn't "Snitch" you would just have to be cautious about that one guy. But know you have to constantly worry about him and his 10 friends. so at the end of the day what is better? sure, in a perfect world you file a police report and the person goes to jail and once he is released he realizes that he was wrong and leaves you alone. But thats just a pipe-dream. Now, I realize that I haven't had as much time on this planate as you adults and most of you will read this and think nothing of it. But thats just being ignorant. instead of arguing with high-school students why not listen to what they have to say and actually consider that there point of views are just as valid as yours. why are you adults -pardon me for generalizing- always fighting us instead of listening. Just something you should think about.
Also that article was BS. entertaining but BS.

In regards to:

Kristen,
Just in regards to your argument against people being sexist -I.E. the use of the word B-I-T-C-H- THE WORD HAS EVOLVED OVER THE YEARS. Yes there are some people who use it in a sexist way but its mostly just a generic insult.
and Yes for the most part everyone of these students that have commented are good people and do care about racism on the account that it is still so prevalent within our community. Ok lets be realistic, for so many years it was understood that if a white person calls an African-American person a N***A then some shit would "go down" (happen). But in 2008 things are slightly more complicated. I know plenty of non African-Americans who use the word N***A its become more of a term of situational use. It could be a bad thing or a good thing. Just like "Fuckin A".

Now understand, I am not writing this to criticize but to educate. Although i do not know you i feel that it is safe to say that you do not attend Berkeley high on a regular basis or are immersed within it's culture .
