Artist as Activist

What is the role of the artist to as a change-maker in the world? What forms can social engagement take? Students will examine these questions and pose some of their own as we learn about activist art throughout history. Students will make posters, portraits, street art and comics/zines. Media will vary depending on the projects and the individual interests of the students; choices will include linoleum-block print, illustration with graphite and pen/ink, bookmaking, watercolor/acrylic painting, and found-object sculpture.
