A graffiti art competition will take place tomorrow at deFremery Park in West Oakland, featuring some of the best graffiti artists in the nation. The contest is part of an all-day festival — Prism: Urban Art and Cultural Festival — organized by the Estria Foundation,.

Sixteen graffiti artists from the Bay Area, Chicago, Austin, and Miami are coming to Oakland to participate in the competition. Each artist will be provided with an 8-by-12 canvas, limited amount of colored spray cans, and a five-hour time frame to complete his or her piece. The panel of judges will include Doze Green, Risk, and Codak.

Eighteenth Street, which borders deFremery Park, will be closed down to host local food vendors and trucks, activities for children, and musical stages, with a special appearance by dead prez. The free event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Check out the Estria Battle website for a detailed schedule of the Life is Living Festival events.
