Ark3: The Workshop Scenarios

When: Thu., Aug. 13, 6-9 p.m. 2015
Price: Free
At last week’s First Fridays event, a team of people wearing spandex suits and masks printed with exposed human muscles stood around a kiddie pool with a giant, inflatable orb floating in the center — as if performing a ritual. The unusual cohort was part of “Anatomical Quivering,” a special performance done in conjunction with the show Ark 3: The Workshop Scenarios, currently on view at Krowswork Gallery (480 23rd St., Oakland). Ark 3 features the collaborative work of Torsten Zenas Burns & Darrin Martin, who took inspiration from the 1976 children’s television series, Ark II, which follows a group of young scientists and a talking chimp who venture to save a post-apocalyptic world from pollution and waste. Burns and Martin’s re-imagining of the TV show consists of an immersive installation involving sci-fi-esque projections and large, round, inflatables as well as a series of equally puzzling but intriguing performances. Each performance (or “workshop”) was filmed, and on August 13 from 6–9 p.m., Burns and Martin will present a new version of their show that includes moments from that footage. This “Scene Integration Presentation” will be the last opportunity to engage with this exceptionally fascinating show through performance.
