Aquarium Age

For the week of March 4-10, 2009.

This week, the planets signal upheaval, and as they do, nervous systems turn cranky. Don't be surprised if you find yourself roaring like a lion. We're in the midst of a disconcerting flux that's sure to ruffle feathers as well as fur. Attitudes, yours or others, are likely to range from manic ambition to hypersensitivity to stubborn resistance to unbridled rebellion. What's more, interruptions, big, small, significant, and not so very important interfere with even the best-laid plans. The good news — and there is always good news — is that while the planets are weaving complex patterns that challenge the ability to stay steady, a strong creative streak also runs through the week, providing lots of opportunities to transform difficult situations through imagination.

The ongoing Saturn/Uranus opposition is still the major source of disruption. It's been at the epicenter of recent challenges to the status quo, financial and otherwise. And although the range of direct influence is waning, this week, the Sun conjuncts Uranus and opposes Saturn, which re-stimulates this already over-stimulated combination. A Sun/Uranus conjunction symbolizes the need for personal freedom, which is why it always tends to manifest as rebellion against whatever enslaves. When the Sun opposes Saturn there is a natural tendency toward pessimism, a perspective that could easily translate into escalated conspiracy theories about the economy. Call me crazy (and I know some of you will) but it seems pretty clear that capitalism ain't working any better than communism, making it just as clear that we need a new system, one capable of addressing the complexities of what we are facing. The old system won't work because it doesn't meet our needs, which is why it's getting harder and harder to raise it from the dead. Don't get me wrong; it's not that we need no system. We need solutions that recognize and address individual needs as well as global needs.

A Mars/Mercury/Neptune conjunction exacerbates irritability and the tendency to overstate or exaggerate, often to the detriment of others. So don't gossip or grouse your time away. If you don't have something good to say, be quiet. Silence in these days of constant conversation could be a welcome and soothing experience.

Venus, goddess of love and beauty, gives birth to the powerful creative current of this week, and the next several weeks. Venus will be retrograde from March 6 through April 17. Except for a brief touchdown in Pisces, from April 11 to 24, Venus spends most of her retrograde phase in Aries, a placement that ignites passionate love of every denomination, as well as a position that revels in romance, again, in a variety of venues. Be prepared to fall in love, but also be prepared for old flames to flare up.

Venus turns around in a sextile to Jupiter, a positive alliance that can be used to amplify the laws of attraction. Jupiter is the planet of great good fortune, and when it unites with Venus, we have opportunities to form beneficial alliances as well. Allow yourself to align with this already positive planetary partnership, and you'll find it easier to maintain a generous, compassionate attitude.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that too.

ARIES March 21-April 19

It's love at first sight, but the object of your affection is you. Don't worry about narcissism. This phase is about embracing an authentic self-love capable of healing the places of your heart in need of tender care.

TAURUS April 20-May 20

You're in an altered state, sleeping and waking, enjoying intense imaginal travels. Takes notes. For while you may think you're drifting through the waters of wishful thinking, you may actually be envisioning your next step.

GEMINI May 21-June 21

Before you volunteer even more and overextend, assess the good works you're already doing. It may sound silly, but just being kind to your cranky neighbor could make a huge difference in the world.

CANCER June 22-July 22

Be clear about what you want to accomplish, and then be willing to do whatever it takes to actualize those ambitions. Most importantly, don't allow negativity, yours or others, to corrupt those dreams.

LEO July 23-August 22

Expand your career horizons by shifting the scope of your perspective. If you aim higher, wider, and broader, your sphere of influence will naturally increase.

VIRGO August 23-September 22

You're in an intense period of discovering what gives you pleasure. Be open to this process by putting aside at least some of your hard and fast rules about what fun should be.

LIBRA September 23-October 22

Be prepared for declarations of love, yours or others, but also anticipate feeling a bit emotionally overwhelmed. The attention feels like heaven, but it might be a little too much to take in.

SCORPIO October 23-November 21

You have an opportunity to make a positive difference in the world simply by showing up with the determination to get the job done. Jump in and you'll be pleased by the positive result.

SAGITTARIUS November 22-December 21

Amorous adventures (or even the longing for them) sets your heart beating at a faster rate. Great ... you can handle the intensity, as long as you understand they are meant to be experienced rather than analyzed.

CAPRICORN December 22-January 19

As old romantic adventures surface, memories have the potential to disrupt your emotional waters. If you allow this process despite your discomfort, it will catalyze the next stage of personal growth.

AQUARIUS January 20-February 18

You may find yourself saying things you never thought you would actually have the courage to say. Good, for while this process could be scary, your catharsis could also be healing.

PISCES February 19-March 20

Your personal stimulus package has the power to refine and revitalize your finances. So make good use of this time, and despite the prevailing zeitgeist you will prosper.
