Aquarium Age

For the week of July 23-29, 2008.

For the second week in a row, an absence of astro-complexity augurs a respite from earthly intensity. Of course, just like last week's lull, this week's planetary "pause" doesn't necessarily mean we're returning to the "normal" of yesteryear, when dramatic events seemed to happen at a "reasonable" pace. What's been set in motion is going to stay in motion from both the individual and collective perspectives, which means this week is bound to feel as intense as any other in recent history. It also means that learning to handle the intensity continues to be the primary challenge to mind and body, as well as heart and soul.

Fortunately, a Mars/Jupiter trine supports the necessary qualities for facing this week's intensity with a positive attitude. Mars symbolizes strength. Jupiter represents optimism. And when they work together, they generate a beneficial field that promotes a desire to live life fully, with strength and honor. Use this enterprising energy to empower plans and projects, yours or others.

Venus moves into an opposition with Neptune by the end of the week, and while this interaction could foster disappointment in love, it could also inspire receptivity and idealism — something most of us could use more of, especially these days when so much doom and gloom pervades individual and collective psyches. Drastic economic forecasts have everyone agitated about what's going to happen, as if some Mad Max/Road Warrior state of existence will commence at any moment. Don't get me wrong; I think our planet and its inhabitants are in dire straits. I just don't think focusing on fear is a viable method for dealing with the situation. What we need to focus on, individually and collectively, is finding effective, creative ways of transforming the problems we face. If, for example, each of us redirected all the energy spent on anxiety about the future and focused it instead on finding solutions in present time, our individual and collective worldview would shift into a positive perspective.

There are several ways to meet the challenge of this week's intensity with skill. The first would be to strike a balance between mental and physical activity. If you're only in your head, make an effort to move into your body. The second would be to continue to search for healthy ways of self-soothing — becoming immersed in a creative project, increasing your meditation, or actively seeking inspiration. Next, when you start to churn with anxiety, concentrate your time and energy on specific, positive goals. Finally, spend as much time as possible helping others. Being of service to those in need often serves as an antidote to existential angst because it provides a concrete way of transforming helplessness into hope. Remember, it's the little acts of kindness that change the world.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign, read that, too.

Aries March 21-April l9

If you frame the situation as burdensome, it will become exhausting. But if you summon your innate strength and are grateful for the opportunity to pursue your ambition, you will experience an incredible lightness of being.

Taurus April 20-May 20

Don't worry if you still feel as if you could use a week of sleep — sleep is good, especially when we need to recuperate from life's stresses and strains. Continue to honor your needs — physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual — and you'll emerge from this phase renewed.

Gemini May 21-June 21

You're inspired by farsighted inspiration, and determined to organize and implement your plans. As you do, pay particular attention to words spoken in the passion of the moment — yours or others — so that you can keep those agreements vital and realistic.

Cancer June 22-July 22

It's still completely appropriate to rely on family and friends for support. What's more, it would be wise to let them know how much you appreciate their assistance. Expressing your gratitude will open your heart and expand your capacity for love.

Leo July 23-August 22

Read Aries and add this: If you prioritize your goals, stay focused, and concentrate your efforts, you will make sure strides toward your success.

Virgo August 23-September 22

Step into the leadership role, seize the moment, and become a dynamic example of the power of a positive attitude. If you take the time to analyze several situations before taking action, you will make decisive, creative choices that will benefit everyone.

Libra September 23-October 22

You're inspired to tackle problems you were hoping would solve themselves but just seem to linger in ambiguity. And while some of the solutions are going to require hard work, when you're finished, you'll feel a great sense of relief.

Scorpio October 23-November 21

A strong current of ambitious enterprise inspires you to tackle big projects, as it simultaneously promotes an optimistic attitude about the results. So get to work and do whatever it takes to fulfill your vision.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21

There are solid, concrete prospects for increased prosperity, but to take advantage of these opportunities, you have to put aside any sort of cynical thinking. Use your good fortune and you will experience positive results.

Capricorn December 22-January 19

You're decidedly philosophical about your circumstances, an attitude that enables you to gain the necessary perspective for moving forward. As you contemplate your next step, just be sure to stay realistic about money.

Aquarius January 20-February 18

You're feeling a strong urge for freedom, a desire that might incline you toward impulsive behavior. I'm not suggesting spontaneity is imprudent; I'm simply reminding you that you will have to live with the consequences.

Pisces February 19-March 20

Rather than dwell on the futility of a certain relationship and allowing disappointment to dominate your mood, turn your attention toward joy. The mere intention to be happy will lift your spirit.
