Aquarium Age

For the week of March 19-25, 2008

It's a week of disconcerting contradiction: The seasonal shift from winter to spring amplifies the promise of a fresh start, but the transition from cold and dark into warm and light is also likely to trigger a sense of overexposure or vulnerability. What's more, normal seasonal urges to get physical are thwarted by obstacles, real and imagined, internal and external, and those impediments push patience to the breakpoint. The coming days are a complex maze of conflicting impulses, and there is no quick fix or easy out. We are in new territory and the "same old same old" just won't work.

Fortunately, the potential for fresh solutions is supported by the Sun's move into Aries on March 20; it's the start of spring, when new beginnings seem probable. Unfortunately, this year's Vernal Equinox contains several difficult configurations: A Sun/Mars square stirs the need to lead and the need to win, but both the Sun and Mars also need to be number one, which means we can expect testy tempers and edgy competition. This tendency toward irritation is exacerbated by a Sun/Pluto square. Pluto not only needs to lead, it also needs to be in control — always. As Pluto clashes with the Sun and the Sun clashes with Mars, many of us could experience an irresistible need to challenge authority. Don't be surprised if seemingly innocuous conversations devolve into heated inquisitions. The best way through is to avoid getting embroiled in battles you might later regret.

But there is also good news. A Mercury/Venus conjunction in Pisces provides the potential for creative innovative problem solving. Mercury represents intellectual processes. Venus signifies the principle of love, as it is expressed through art. And when Mercury and Venus share the same space, minds reach for original and inventive perspectives. Intuition flourishes under this influence, so pay attention to your hunches — just be careful to avoid foolhardy schemes that sound too good to be true, because they are. Mars trines this Mercury/Venus conjunction through the weekend, a positive alliance insistent on action. Pisces rules the feet, so don't be surprised if you feel like dancing.

Beneath these surface waves, two deeper currents continue to provide a sense of security — another reason the week feels contradictory. First, the Saturn/Pluto trine supplies endurance and perseverance. Second, the Jupiter/Uranus sextile provides an optimistic outlook that's able to facilitate adjustments to change. Both of these positive interactions can be used to mediate the discombobulating patterns of the week, especially if you're willing to seek creative solutions and try something new.

If you know your Ascendant and/or your Moon Sign read that, too.

Aries March 21-April l9

Allow yourself to embrace the promise of hope, and then let that optimistic attitude strengthen your ability to face the demon of despair. Remember, life isn't black and white — even for a warrior like you the solid ground of compromise is often the strongest position.

Taurus April 20-May 20

Are there areas of your life that could improve? Certainly. Is a negative litany of all your failings going to help? Not at all. Refuse to engage in self-denigration and you'll face your current crisis with an appropriate level of determination and discipline.

Gemini May 21-June 21

Your innate capacity to see both sides of any situation is an asset during times of complexity and contradiction. Use it wisely to navigate potential financial problems with significant others, personal or professional.

Cancer June 22-July 22

Continue to assume the mantle of authority, but also continue to be a benevolent despot. By that I mean, even as you lead your followers with a firm hand, remember to be kind and compassionate and to listen closely as they share their opinions.

Leo July 23-August 22

You can make solid progress toward certain career goals if you're willing to accept the reality of just how much hard work it will take to succeed. I'm not suggesting you become a slave, but I am advising you to stay focused, disciplined, and determined.

Virgo August 23-September 22

Try not to let harsh words dissuade you from participating in activities with friends and family. Yes, there are some leadership issues in need of immediate resolution, but that shouldn't keep you from engaging wholeheartedly in the creative process.

Libra September 23-October 22

The trick is not to succumb to petty interactions that are only meant to distract from bigger issues. If you can maintain your inner equilibrium, you'll find the requisite resources to preserve a calm approach to several situations.

Scorpio October 23-November 21

Despite several awkward moments, friends and associates still offer the potential of providing the positive support you need. So rather than polarize over minor differences of opinion, embrace what's unique about their contributions.

Sagittarius November 22-December 21

Despite some annoying interference, your situation is not a Rubik's Cube of endless trial and error. Focus on how you can create greater structure in your career, and then allow that structure to dictate the next step.

Capricorn December 22-January 19

You can focus your attention on what needs improvement, or you can appreciate what's going well. It's not an easy choice for someone who yearns for perfection, but it is a necessary choice if you want to maintain your mental health.

Aquarius January 20-February 18

Try not to be distracted by contradiction, and instead do whatever it takes to stay clear about your perception of the situation. If you maintain your clarity, you'll handle the demands, as well as the needs of others, with skill.

Pisces February 19-March 20

Despite your innate understanding that "this too shall pass," it's hard staying steady in the midst of so much uncertainty. If you focus on strengthening your already existing wisdom, you'll notice an almost immediate improvement in your situation.
