December 6, 2017-May 27, 2018 Opening Reception: Wednesday, December 6, 2017 | 4:00-5:00 pm Mills College Art Museum, Back Gallery* Featuring works from the Mills College Art Museum’s collection, Anxious States: Expressionism from Gaugin to Oliveira follows the evolution of Expressionism as an artistic response to anxieties of contemporary life, disruptive technologies, and global war across a range of time periods and cultures. Expressionism describes an aesthetic style developed from the feelings of uncertainty and alienation that accompanied rapid industrialization during the early 20th century.
