Re: “Don't Recycle That Plastic

Posted to Don Mclealy, you are dead wrong. All the plastics he listed that can't be recycled simply CANNOT be recycled. They are made of polymer chains that bond together to make the plastic. The chains in the plastics listed as un-recyclable (4's, 5's and some 7's for example) cannot be recycled back to the original product because we have not developed the technology to reform those bonds. Simply melting the product down, like in metals and glass, to reform it doesn't work, so science is trying to develop ways to reform the bonds using heat or chemical reactions.

As of yet, the best recycling method is to cut the plastic into flakes and then reprocess it into plastic materials using mostly new product and the recycled material as filler. If you were to use the recycled product it wouldn't bond and would break under any amount of stress. so just stay away from plastic, and when you do buy it DO NOT recycle it. Even the kinds you can recycle are not worth it. They make a weaker product for more money. Isn't think thats the definition of a useless product?
